THEALTER FESZT 2012

A new festival is coming!

THEALTER FESZT 2012
A Meeting of Independent Performing Arts Organisations
23-29 July 2012, Szeged

A new THEALTER is on the way: both the form and the content of the festival will be revamped this year, for the 22nd edition of the festival, organised jointly by MASZK Association (Szeged) and the Independent Performing Arts Association (Budapest).

Four different but equally-important strands will constitute the main programme of the festival.

Guest of honour of the festival: based on the majority of votes of the members of the Independent Performing Arts Association, an artist or a theatre group presents the most important performances of its repertoire. The Guest of honour in 2012 will be Béla Pintér and Company (Budapest).

Selected programme: A selector, this year György Szabó, the managing director of Trafó, will select 5 productions from among the latest pieces staged by members of the Independent Performing Arts Association.

Site-specific performances: a call has been published for members of the Independent Performing Arts Association to create site-specific performances in 4 unique venues in Szeged (old block of flats, university lecture room, fountain area, river boathouse). A jury will select the most promising projects which will also receive financial support for their realisation.

International programme: we will invite a number of performances mainly from Eastern and Southern Europe, together with Hungarian productions from the neighbouring countries.

We are also planning to offer a rich series of accompanying events including open air theatres and workshops as well as a guest performance in the local prison. As usual, we will publish a daily festival paper, broadcast on THEALTER Radio and blog regularly.
For more info, visit our website regularly or like us on www.facebook.com/thealter.

The main supporters of THEALTER FESZT 2012 are the Municipality of Szeged and the National Cultural Fund.

THEALTER festival is a member of the Hungarian Festival Association.

Pass-port

A new co-operation between MASZK and Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre from Subotica, supported by the EU.

Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre and MASZK Association have started the preparations for a joint project supported by the Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-border Co-operation programme. This year, three theatre performances will be staged which will reflect on how people live in our regions, on the two sides of the border. Actors of Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre, as well as guest artists from Subotica and Szeged will take part in the creative work, with András Urbán as director. The performances will be presented both in Szeged and in Subotica. The productions will be based on sociological surveys and personal interviews in the region, carried out by the actors themselves, in order to find out how we live and what we think about our neighbours on the other side of the border.

MASZK has been working together with András Urbán and Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre since 2003. We have staged ten theatre co-productions so far, several of which have been awarded at national and international festivals.

The lead beneficiary of the project is Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre, the co-operating partner is MASZK Association. The planned budget of the project is 99.915 Euro, 85% of which is provided by the EU via the Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-border Co-operation programme.
